District 15 needs a Congressman that will stand up for America’s veterans
In the above video, I address how I plan to support our veterans. Our current Congressman has ignored this issue for too long. Keep in mind, it is not just him but the archaic policies and lack of funding from Washington that leaves many of our veterans struggling.
Right now the Veterans Administration is struggling to address the needs of the men and women that have served our country.
I am sure that you have heard reports that VA hospitals, clinics, and outpatient centers that are unable to provide health care services in a timely manner, that older locations are in need of repair and that they are in desperate need of new facilities across our nation. They must be given the funding to combat the mental health and addiction issues of the veteran population. Right now 1 in every 4 suicides is a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces. There must be more dollars made available for research to better serve our vets needs.
Did you know that Florida Florida has the 3rd highest veteran population in the U.S.?
We also have one of the highest populations of homeless veterans. In the U.S., there are close to 50,000 veterans and 1 in 4 of those are homeless and about 2/3 of those have mental issues. This is unacceptable. We need to do more to combat homelessness in Florida and nationwide.
The unemployment rate among vets is 150% the national rate among non-vets.
We must sure that returning veterans have the education and training that they need to find a job and to take advantage of opportunities on the home front. We need to provide programs for disabled veterans that will help them with rehabilitation and finding employment. Veterans with disabilities are 2x more likely to live in poverty. Consider this, 22% of veterans return to take positions in our federal government. When government agencies are drastically cut back or eliminated this affects veterans tremendously. We must honor our promise to our veterans and give them what they need to transition from service to the nation’s workplace.
I will fight against the privatization of the Department of Veteran Affairs.
We owe each and every one of our veterans the right to live with dignity and to feel that they are respected. We owe their families, the mothers, fathers, wives, husbands, sons and daughters that sacrifice so that their loved ones can protect our country.
As your Congressman, my door will always be open to veteran groups and I will always be ready to discuss the problems that our vets face and to work towards solutions. Our current Congressman has ignored our veteran population for too long.
It’s time we do what is right for our veterans.
