Greg Pilkington on the Wells Fargo Scandal

My position on the Wells Fargo scandal and the incumbent’s lack of action. The current Congressman for Florida’s District 15 sits on the House banking committee and he’s never said anything about the actions of Wells Fargo. This is unacceptable. The executives at Wells Fargo must be held accountable for their illegal actions.
As your Congressman, I will be your representative NOT the banks.

Congressional Candidate Greg Pilkington on Working Together

I was working on the above video when I read about the tragedy in Charlottesville, Va.

I believe it makes this message even more important.

At this moment in American history, we are divided and it has to stop.  These divisions are wreaking havoc on our country, impeding our progress and encouraging a loss of respect for our nation around the world.

We not only need to bring America together but we need to bring our leaders together. The partisan efforts to pass legislation of such great importance to all Americans as healthcare, spotlighted the system’s failures.

Congress as of this writing has an approval rating of 20%. The main reason that Americans do not have faith in Congress is that they feel that Congress is broken. We can fix that.

We need to get rid of career politicians and rein in the huge sums of money in politics. We need our Congress to work for the people, not Wall St, Big Banks, Big Business and special interests.

To do this we MUST work together for the greater good of our nation so that we serve ALL of our citizens. That is the kind of Congressman that I want to be.

There is no way forward unless we construct legislation in an open and bipartisan manner that has the needs of its people at its core.Greg Pilkington, Congressional Candidate Fl. District 15

Congressional Candidate Greg Pilkington on Immigration

Immigration Reform in America is long overdue.

Immigration reform is a complicated issue that requires thoughtful, realistic common sense policies that help keep families together.

The approach of this current presidential administration is dangerous and unrealistic. Immigrants, both legal and illegal live in fear as they try to support their families and build better lives.

It is my belief that we should allow compassion to be our guide in creating policies that address the long-standing issues in our immigration laws. There is a middle ground that can be reached if a bi-partisan effort is made to address the problems.

This is an economic issue. We need immigrants as part of our workforce. One area of the U.S. economy that is affected greatly by this issue is our agricultural businesses. Most often their business model is based on cheap immigrant labor. If this is disrupted the cost of food will increase and that creates an economic difficulty for many American households. That being said, it is wrong to punish an illegal immigrant for coming to the U.S. to work and not punish the company that looked the other way and hired them without documentation. They should be held accountable and the current laws should be applied.

As I said in the video, “As your Congressman, I will be a persuasive voice advocating for reason and compassion in these debates.”

Congressional Candidate Greg Pilkington on Veterans

District 15 needs a Congressman that will stand up for America’s veterans

In the above video, I address how I plan to support our veterans. Our current Congressman has ignored this issue for too long.  Keep in mind, it is not just him but the archaic policies and lack of funding from Washington that leaves many of our veterans struggling.

Right now the Veterans Administration is struggling to address the needs of the men and women that have served our country.

I am sure that you have heard reports that VA hospitals, clinics, and outpatient centers that are unable to provide health care services in a timely manner, that older locations are in need of repair and that they are in desperate need of new facilities across our nation. They must be given the funding to combat the mental health and addiction issues of the veteran population. Right now 1 in every 4 suicides is a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces. There must be more dollars made available for research to better serve our vets needs.

Did you know that Florida Florida has the 3rd highest veteran population in the U.S.?

We also have one of the highest populations of homeless veterans. In the U.S.,  there are close to 50,000 veterans and 1 in 4 of those are homeless and about 2/3 of those have mental issues. This is unacceptable. We need to do more to combat homelessness in Florida and nationwide.

The unemployment rate among vets is 150%  the national rate among non-vets.

We must sure that returning veterans have the education and training that they need to find a job and to take advantage of opportunities on the home front.  We need to provide programs for disabled veterans that will help them with rehabilitation and finding employment. Veterans with disabilities are 2x more likely to live in poverty.  Consider this, 22% of veterans return to take positions in our federal government. When government agencies are drastically cut back or eliminated this affects veterans tremendously. We must honor our promise to our veterans and give them what they need to transition from service to the nation’s workplace.

I will fight against the privatization of the Department of Veteran Affairs.

We owe each and every one of our veterans the right to live with dignity and to feel that they are respected. We owe their families, the mothers, fathers, wives, husbands, sons and daughters that sacrifice so that their loved ones can protect our country.

As your Congressman, my door will always be open to veteran groups and I will always be ready to discuss the problems that our vets face and to work towards solutions. Our current Congressman has ignored our veteran population for too long.

It’s time we do what is right for our veterans.

Congressional Candidate Greg Pilkington on Social Security [VIDEO]

“As your Congressman, I will work to put Social Security on a firm financial foundation for today’s retirees.”

Our social security program is at risk. The risk is not coming from the myth that the system is going broke. The risk does come from with in Congress. There is a movement to privatize Social Security which would be disastrous. Of course, there is room for improvements but privatization is not the answer. We cannot allow corporate America to gain an opportunity to profit off this worker funded retirement savings program.

Nearly nine out of ten individuals age 65 and older receive Social Security benefits.

One of the improvements to the social security fund that I will fight for as your Congressman is to increase the tax base.

I would like to see the earnings cap removed. Why shouldn’t the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share?

Any benefit reductions will affect not only the elderly but will also affect many households with young children.

Social Security is relied on by a large percentage of elderly Americans. For many, this is their only source of income. Cuts to this program have real and far-reaching consequences.

Among elderly Social Security beneficiaries, 21% of married couples and about 43% of unmarried persons rely on Social Security for 90% or more of their income.

As your Congressman, I will fight for you and support the Social Security program so that you have this protection when you retire.

I will work to expand the tax base so that the program is well-funded. The workers of District 15 should be protected from the members of Congress who are willing to cut this vital program that works to protect the interests of the wealthy.

Greg Pilkington with some thoughts on the failure of the AHCA

Do you know many times has Trump changed his mind concerning the AHCA healthcare bill?

I don’t, I’ve lost count. Your healthcare has become a political football and the intent of providing better healthcare options has been lost.

Watch the video above and I will share with you my thoughts on this issue.  You can also watch my other video on healthcare HERE.

Congressional Candidate Greg Pilkington on Jobs

Florida’s District 15 is desperately in need of good paying jobs.

In the above video, I discuss the problems that Americans face in today’s economic climate. Ask yourself why surrounding areas such as Tampa and Orlando are seeing a boom in businesses moving to the area and providing good paying jobs while District 15 lags behind.

The economic growth in Florida's District 15 is stagnant primarily due to the failure of leadership. Click To Tweet

The answer is simple. We lack the leadership in Congress that will support bringing innovative technologies and expanding businesses to our district. Your current Congressman is NOT working to make sure that you get a good paying job.

As your Congressman, I will work to bring jobs to our area and encourage corporations to expand into our area.

I support closing loopholes that allow jobs to be sent overseas and corporations to avoid taxes. I want more products to be made here in the U.S. to help support our economy and rebuild the middle class and to move people out of low-paying jobs and open up opportunities for success.

We must adjust our views to understand that technology is changing the types of jobs in our future. We have to make sure that we tailor our education system to reflect these changes. It is imperative that we address this issue immediately at all levels of government.

When I get to Congress my job is to work for you and your family.

That should start by making sure that you have the opportunities that you need to succeed. Job creation across our area has to be a priority, one that has been neglected by your current Congressman. It’s my promise to you that I will work to bring jobs to your neighborhood.

Congressional Candidate Greg Pilkington on Healthcare

Healthcare is one of the most important issues that Americans face today.

The problems within the healthcare system touch every citizen’s lives from their first breath to their last.

In this video, I discuss the impacts that the current version of Trumpcare will have on our society including the impact on women’s health, how it will affect people with pre-existing conditions and how the bill is designed not to promote decent healthcare for all but to provide tax cuts to America’s wealthiest and more.

We can do so much better. When elected I will work tirelessly to bring us closer to Medicare For All and to make sure that you can get the coverage that you need for you and your loved ones.  Florida’s District 15 deserves strong leadership that addresses the needs of the community.
